And the rest of the weekend went somehting like this...

Thanks for all the great comments yesterday!!! It was almost as fun as going to the fair again...:)

So, on Sunday my bubs and I got......the key to the new house so we could go in and take measurements and what not. On our trip inside....I was once again in aw of the space...lots and lots of wood, and lots and lots of windows...

The kitchen is small but adorable and the new floors have this rustic old stone feel. The living and dining rooms are big and have hardwood floors, there is a French Glass door off the dining room which leads to the sun room, which is tiny and we will be using it as the play room for the mean cheese. The front porch is done and the porch swing is up...upstairs I have commandeered the large master bedroom as my studio, as most of my waking hours will be in it, and figured we could have one of the smaller back bedrooms for us...

Oh my new studio is divine with more than enough room for my computer, my art desk, a 4 foot table with the light box etc, my bubs' drawing table, a book case....and even my exercise bike. The closet in the studio is a huge walk in, so I have also claimed that closet as mine as well.

I felt like an old timey explorer, "finding" things and claiming them in the name of my country.

So we got measurements of the windows because there are so many of them...and then proceeded to go looking for 27" blinds....well let's just say that Target, Meijer, and Big Lots have all been wiped out of 27" blinds...and we still don't have enough.

We went back to the house and my dear bubs started to hand the blinds....well, blind...singular, as the windows are so tall and the ceilings are so high it was a near impossible task considering he and I am the two most un mechanical type people in the world, we are like the opposite of being handy.

So after a long time, and a lot of swearing and banging about...we decided to call it a night at the new place, our goal is to do one or two loads of stuff every day, we will work there most of tomorrow and then next Wednesday is the "official" move day....I say official because that will be the day I move my studio and work stuff, and that is the day that (cross your fingers) that the phone line and most importantly my DSL will be hooked up at the new Chateau Stiletto.

So after as weekend filled, just filled to brim with stuff....my bubs and I decided to sit down and watch a movie...Capote, which he bought me as a special treat.

ok, now bear in mind that my bubs is not really a fan of 90% of "my" movies, the ones that are overly intellectualized and filled with long camera shots and tons of silence....where the characters are just torn to shreds emotionally in every scene...

SO anyway, we settle in with some (well deserved) ice cream and put in the dvd....now I will not spoil Capote for anyone who has not seen it, but I will describe the opening.....lots of black screens, coupled with long still shots of the Kansas landscape.....haunting music is playing...more darkness...more landscape, it is beautiful, serene and somewhat frightening....at this moment in time, I am already madly in love with the movie.

I look to my bubs who lets out an audible sigh of disgust, I give him "the look" and he settles down.

Scene change....New York, it's a party and (the brilliant) Phillip Seymore Hoffman is portraying TRuman Capote...in the most dead one version of him I could even imagine. Now please keep in mind that Capote had a very hight pitched voice, and a lisp, he seemed to me, always to be part of one of the eccentric characters he had created.

anyway.....he starts to talk, and my bubs has this look on his face...and I can tell he's not pleased, not at all.

bubs- I'm not sure about this...what is this about

me: Sigh....it's about Truman Capote and when he wrote In Cold Blood

bubs: Kaputznick...(he is making fun of the name Capote now), I thoughhe was Russian

Me: ssshhhhh!!

bubs- I don't think I want to watch it, it's not my type of movie

me - Oh My God!!! I watched a 3 1/2 hour movie about TEXAS with you...TEXAS (I have nothing against Texas, besides that our President is from there...oh and the movie I am referring to is "The Alamo" with John Wayne)

me- If I watched that you can watch a movie about a gay writer who goes to Kansas to write about a double murder, you can do that for me!!!

bubs- fine

2 hours later, we had finished the movie and my darling bubs liked it, a lot....I knew he would.

so, that was the rest of the weekend....

oh and before I forget and get sidetracked with other tasks, I NEED to thank two wonderful people...I received in the mail yesterday some wonderful things....I should have photographed them, but I did now...

anyway, a wonderful woman from Portugal named Adelia sent me, some antique postcards with beautiful handwriting , she also sent a long some of her origami....it was amazing, the type of treasures that when you open them the rest of the world seems to get very quiet and fuzzy.

THANK YOU Adelia....you are an amazing muse!!!

The second thank you goes out to TARA!!!!! I received two boxes from her yesterday, one was filled with clothes...um yeah....Tara is the best, who does not love getting clothes!!!! ad in the second box was a pair of shoes that she had never really worn because the heel was too high, and you know me and high heels....it was great.

So, Tara...thank you so much, it was like Christmas!!!

OK now I seriously must get some work done, the image today is of a new piece just listed in my shop last night it's called "You and Me Sipping Vodka and Soda"

short bread cookies for breakfast

why oh why does the weekend have to be over....why do the days off with my bubs fly by so fast, and now I am here all alone...

you see it's dreadfully hot today complete with air quality alerts and the whole none yards...you see my work room has no air conditioning and once the lights are on to work I quite literally cook myself in the heat....also it makes it near impossible for paint to dry, and seeing as I am so impatient I keep messing with things until they are just that...a mess, and lumped into a large pile of things never to see the light of day again.

so my plans for today....basic hiding out in my cool bedroom with the computer, package some stuff, and try not to breath any bad air. I will honestly try to get out and do a little creating, but already I am feeling unmotivated when I go in the other room, like walking head first into a solid wall of heat.

so I sit and I wait for the impending blackout....as once it gets over 90 here in Columbus the power tends to get "spotty" flickering on and off many times a day, until the inevitable longer blackouts...

So my bubs and I had a wonderful weekend for us...just lots of us time complete with drinking drinks outside when the horrible neighbors were not home...we even got to go on a field trip to the movies last night with our friend Clemencia, we went to see.....

TRANSFORMERS!!!

now, I am not overly a fan of giant robots doing their giant robot thing, but that movie was mindless and ridiculous fun for me....maybe it was the drinks and loads of sugar that gave me such a high....but truthfully I think it was the best of the silly summer blockbusters so far...except Nancy Drew which was the perfect movie ever.

Dear (Insert Name Here) Week 14

Dear Mr George Clooney

um, hi....how are you? It's been a while I know. I wanted to see how you were, I know I don't avidly stalk you the way I used to, but I did not want you to think I had forgotten about you completely, after all....that would be impossible to do you are George Clooney, friend to Brad and Angelina.

Yes, I am sorry but that is what you have become to me, just the friend to my celeb couple obsession. I remember several years ago when you were my number one obsession.

Hey, remember when I became totally obsessed with becoming your personal assistant? (the idea came to me after sitting through the credits on Oh, Brother Where Art Thou and seeing your assistants name in the credits, I turned to the no go hippie ex husband and said "I could do that").

The rest they say is history. I even half heartedly began to write a movie script, about a sort of down on her luck 20 something who becomes obsessed with the idea, the movie was a drama/comedy where this poor girl fixates on that idea instead of fixating what is wrong in her own life.

Throughout the never finished movie, there would be tears, laughter, and even some growing as a person, you would have made a small cameo in it too...well had I ever finished it, and had it gotten made.

Oh, and you can't forget that the lead character would have worn a sweet George Clooney t-shirt that had an iron on of you Mr. Clooney from the Facts of Life days...and under the dreamy picture of you it would have said "Clooney!" in sweet 1980's bubble letters or some crap.

So you see, I have come a long way....no more stalker girl for me...I bet you can sleep a little easier at night huh?

so...now to the point of the letter, um...can you give me Brad and Angelia's number, or just Angie's cell would be cool, I have a movie script to pitch to them.

happy Tuesday morning!!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend, whether it be long or short...I had a spectacularly relaxing one, you see bubs and I went nowhere and did nothing...no BBQ's no fire works...nothing, and it was still a bit blissful.

He got out of work Saturday and that began the weekend that was filled with eating junk foods (for dinner one night we had cheesecake and peanut butter ice cream) and lots of relaxing, napping, reading and then yes...even more sweets.

We did take a little jaunt to the small movie theater a few blocks from us to go see Pirates, which was by far the best of the three movies even though it had stuff I am not a fan of.

2- crabs (yes Aaron, you have now made ME scared of crabs too, you are right it's the pinchers and crabwalking)
3- Kiera Knightly

Then yesterday my bubs went back to work and I spent the day packaging things up and watching way too many hours of old school Degrassi High, I don;t know what it is but I am just a sucker for Canadian TV from when I was a teenager, don't even get me started on how much I love anything Anne Of Green Gable related!!!

I also managed to get some really good creative time in this weekend too, amidst the naps and the sweets.

So did anyone else watch the Miss Universe Pageant last night??? Well I did, and can I just say, the girls were especially slutty looking this year, and I swear Miss Korea looked like an adult film star, and...her name was "Honey Lee"...that is so not her real name.

I also like that Dava Navarro was one of the judges, and when he got to ask "the final question" to Miss Brazil (who was beautiful in a Las Vegas Showgirl kind of way), he basically was just hitting on her and called her "baby"

I also like that Miss USA fell on her but during the Evening Gown competition, and then got booed by the audience when she made it into the top 5....

sorry to geek out, but I do love the damn beauty pageants a lot...a real lot.

ok, must get back to work....

I have also realized that I am "this close" (ok 9 away) from hitting the 1000 items sold in my shop...which seems so strange and wonderful at the same time, I really feel like I should be doing something very special for the next 9 things sold, like free stuff or a special sale or something....

so...I guess I will do a sale, yes, that's it...I will give the sales until I hit 1000 a special 20% off. Just write "1000" in the message to seller and wait for a new invoice.

ok, that's enough business talk.....off to start my day.

Back to work

morning!!

wow, yesterday was a much needed little break for me, I did only the slightest amount of work...as many of you know I am a bit obsessive with my work load and find that I am working all of the time.

That is part of the downsides from working at home, I never take a "day off".

So yesterday my bubs and I went to a movie, we...The Reaping, which was....well it was exactly what were were expecting it to be. I love scary movies that mix bible anything into it...so when I kept seeing the previews for this and repeatedly the words "bible plagues" were said...well, I knew it was the movie for me.

Plus it took place in the swamps of Louisiana which is where "my people" hail from.

All in all it was good, fun and scary...not scary like The Exorcist but still very good popcorn turn off your brain movie , at one point I was watching the movie all balled up on my seat, barely peeking out over my knees. This is hard to do in 4 inch heels but I needed to.

I also had my hands up almost shielding my eyes...waiting, just waiting.

We were also the only two people in the theater so we got to just be sort of loud and funny during it.

all in all in was good, though...disclaimers being what they are, I was raised very catholic (I'm not anymore...but that's not the point), when I was little my mom gave me this "children's bible" that was filled with gory painted illustrations of the 10 plagues and all that, I was mortified and fascinated by this when I was small, so seeing this movie was like peeking back into the things that scared me when I was small.

Looking back, I don't know why my mom gave me such a frightening children's bible...but I guess she had her reasons.

After that we had a little lunch and just relaxed.

I think we needed it, you see my bubs and I are always doing stuff, even when we are home together, we very rarely take the time to just be, I am not sure why this is, but relaxation is always just out of reach.

I would like to try and work on that.

I know I get obsessive with my work because it is such an extension of me, of who I am...when I am having a good day work wise, I feel calm, secure inside.

Worthwhile.

But on days when I am suffering from creative block, or sales are down, well it's strange, I take it personally. I am filled with doubt and all at once I am insecure. This makes it very hard to be around me sometimes, those times that I am filled with "need" for reassurance.

That is what I want to work on, I want to just be me, with out the doubt. Is this even possible? I know everyone feels like this sometimes but is it possible to just be so at ease and comfortable with yourself?

Or is being an artist type something that predisposes you to this inner turmoil.

wow....I have no idea how this blog went from Bible plagues to insecurity.

maybe that is one of the plagues???

ok I should dash, I have photos to take of some new pieces as well as a couple things to finish up. I will be listing a set of Audrey Hepburn blocks later today!!!

I listed this set of blocks last night, it is a set of 5 blocks and it is up for sale in my shop.

Lazy Day

just writing a quick hello....there will be no blog entry today as my bubs has the day off and I am going to take some down time.

will be back tomorrow refreshed and ready to go. We are going on a date this afternoon to a movie show and lunch.

in the mean time here is a new piece in my shop, it is a double sided ornament of sorts, non holiday of course, perfect for any time of year.

also, thank you to Ben for being my 850th item sold on etsy last night...what a wonderful treat, I will have to include a special gift for Ben as a thank you!

oh and a HUGE thank you for all the letters yesterday, I think this was our best week yet!! I am also struck by the death of Kurt Vonnegut Jr right now, I'm thinking next week perhaps we should use the theme of writing to an author, either dead or alive.

Obsessions and the like

Welcome to Friday~~~

it has been rainy in scenic Columbus for what feels like forever, which has put me in the mood to curl up eat some cakes, and nap, nap, nap.

but alas, I have packaging to be done, blogs to be written, and houses to be child-proofed in preparation for the mean cheese arrival this weekend.

First order of business today...HAPPY BIRTHDAY AIMEE!!!!! (I am pretty sure it's today). You should all heads on over tp her blog and wish her well!

Yesterday I mentioned that the one and only Jody sent me a documentary about Gia. I watched it yesterday, and I cannot thank her enough!! It was wonderful, filled with photos I had never seen before, as well as a wonderful interview with legendary make up artist as well as Gia's former lover, Sandy Linter. Sandy is still white hot, and oozes with Debbie Harry cool!

awesome.

Also a prolonged interview with Francesco Scavullo was also totally amazing. When I was little I would stare at the covers of Cosmopolitan and just wish I could look like those girls, what I did not realize then, was that Scavullo was shaping the way I viewed "pretty".

Anyway, the documentary was amazing, and now I am even more convinced that if I was a dead, heroin addicted, lesbian super model from the 1970's...I would so be Gia.

I included today one of the wonderful images from her photo shoot with Helmut Newton, as well as an aceo I have of her in my shop, which features a very early pre NYC modeling days of Gia.

I also need to talk about how excited I am about a couple of things, first my darling friend Karen Beth has decided to do a zine, it is still in the very early planning stages, but she has asked me to do a cover for it, I will be collaborating with the adorable Lou from "art and ghosts" on the project.

I have been mentoring Lou over on etsy, and she is not only wonderful as a person, but just eerily talented, if you have not seen her work, you need to. I am in love with her photos, but she also does some wonderful work with doll imagery which is just fascinating.

While talking with her we realized we had a mutual love for the movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" which I have not seen in years, but it is one of my favorite genres of movies "anything about a boarding school".

SO anyway, the darling said she would send me a copy of the movie....YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's all I can think about!!

I got to see my friend Diana last night briefly, we met so we could look through my book, my book being my small portfolio of little collages, while she was picking out the pieces she would be taking, she told me how her son's Godfather had just returned home from Paris, where he picked up a new magazine foe me.

I was just thrilled, I don;t know which one it is, but it does not matter at all!!!!! As you all well know, I have a bit of a magazine, problem.

So I am coming up on a bunch of milestones that will be happening in the coming weeks, I am almost at 150 blog posts, 800 items sold on etsy, and my one year mark on etsy too...it's a lot going on all at once, you can expect me to get all generous and crazy with goodies with purchases, like Willie Wonka or some such nonsense, but instead of the oompa loompas, we just have the mean cheese.

Monday, Monday...

morning loves

I hope you all had a a wonderful weekend. I survived the comic show yesterday.

(I know, I know you were all really worried about me)

It was long and arduous at times and the only thing that got me through it was my bubs, and the fact that I said over and over again in my head "thank God I'm not in Cleveland". That really helped, also the fact that when it was done I got to eat a grilled cheese and French fries off the kids menu at the restaurant...

it was Yum-tastic, but frankly I believe that grilled cheese makes anything better.

So if you popped by the ye olde blog sometime this weekend you know that I spent a ton of time this weekend all cuddled up watching movies.

I am a movie junkie, I just want to clarify that in case you didn't know, I also get "overly involved" when watching a movie...like there have been "situations" when watching a film that I have become so distraught...that people I was with actually feared for me.

When I was 4 or 5 and saw ET in the theater I actually had to be taken out....after ET turned white, I had a meltdown, it was near catastrophic, there was screaming, crying...I believe there was even dry heaving.

When I saw Return of The King (poor aaron & ben can attest to this) I cried from beginning to end...audibly sobbing, not just silent girlie tears...big bad tears.

I can't even begin to describe what it was like to see Cold Mountain and The Notebook, that god I was with bubs who very sweetly just rubbed my back and said (in regards to Cold Mountain) "How could you not see that coming?" and (in regards to the notebook) "if you read the book and knew this would happen, why did you watch it?".

So the point I am trying to make, is...I watched the BEST movie ever this weekend.

The Prestige.

It was brilliant from beginning to end, just flawless, I don;t want to write too much about it because I don't want to spoil it for those who have not seen it...

At first I thought I would like it because it had a comic book and pop culture cast to die for...Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman, Christan "Batman" Bale, Michael "ALfred (Batman's Butler" Caine, David "Goblin King" Bowie, Scarlett "I am Flawless in Jenn's Eyes" Johannson, and the guy who played Golem in Lord of The Rings....sorry I don't remember his name.

The movie did once again make me totally obsessed with that time period...and magic.

I went out last night and rented a wonderful/horrible shark movie called "12 Days Of Terror" it is about shark attacks in 1916, I also rented The Illusionist which I will watch today while I am "working".

So please bear with me...if I fall into an odd speech patter and start saying things like "Watch out for the horseless carriage", or "let's go sea bathing, it is supposed to ward off Polio", you will have to just cope with that.

Did you all know that I used to be a magicians assistant? It's true, it was one of my strangest jobs, though he hated being called a magician and only referred to himself as a "psychic entertainer"...it was equal parts fun and so NOT FUN!!!!!!

And for the record, I never got to wear amazing things like Miss Johannson wore in The Prestige....

Oh, and I watched Hollywoodland this weekend, which was...ok, like if it were a TV movie I would think it was awesome, but as a real movie, well it just had way too much Ben Afflect in it for me, though I do like the time period it was showing off, which was 1950's Hollywood....though again, I am a total sucker for that stuff.

The piece I am showing off today is sort of inspired by the whole film noir old Hollywood thing, it is available for sale in my etsy shop.

Snowy Saturday Night

Hi darling ones...

well, it looks like we won;t be going to Gallery Hop tonight as it suddenly got dreadfully cold and altogether yuck out side...

so, we instead are going to curl up with some movies....something we never ever get to do, we will be viewing The Prestige, which I am ridiculously excited about, and Hollywoodland, which I would be very excited about, but there is the Ben Affleck issue.
