Dear (Insert Name Here) week 8 (is it 8, I made that up)

Dear Anna Wintour

(editor in chief of American Vogue)

I have never been so inspired to write in to a magazine before....blah, blah....seriously why do all letters that involve magazines have to start like that???

ok, I will just come out with it.

Bravo on the May 2007 issue of Vogue, I mean this in all seriousness. You wooed me with the models on the cover but then kept it going all the way through. I felt for the first time in at least 2 years that I was reading Vogue, not a glorified version of People magazine with an insufferable article about Jennifer Hudson or Sienna Miller.

(seriously, how did you give the go ahead to put Jennifer Hudson on the cover????)

I was actually taken aback and moved by the clothes on the cover as well, something that does not happen very often anymore as I am more inclined to focus on the celeb than the clothes.

It is still about the clothes, right? Or did I lose something a long the way?

Not to sound all "The Devil Wears Prada" or anything, but I honestly believe that fashion is the most important art form our culture has today...and that is really saying something seeing as I am an "artist" myself.

I think American Vogue needs to be that bible, that bible of class, style, and fashion...it NEEDS to be that, I want it to be that, the dream magazine of my childhood.

I am sure by the time next month rolls around you will have f-ed with my emotions again but putting the damn kids from Harry Potter on the cover, and I will be forced to write you a hate later calling you the devil and telling you that I think Merryl Streep put too much heart in her performance of you.

but until then...

thank you.

sincerely,
Jennifer Gordon, longtime reader first time writer.

OK everyone now for a little shop business, as you all know I will be going out of town On Friday morning (way early, at like 4:00am) I am taking a bunch of my art with me when I go, including ALL of my art cards, so if there is anything in my shop you want, get it now, as it might not come back with me.

also, I am a mere 5 sales away from 900, I am so hoping that I get there before I leave for Pittsburgh, as tomorrow is the big one year mark on etsy!!!!

so that being the case, the next 5 sales leading up to 900 are all getting extra love and goodies thrown it.

also, don;t forget the contest every time you buy something you get entered twice (wow).

ok, so that's it for now, I will be checking in tomorrow with all my craziness.

xoxo

Tuesday

morning everyone!!

first, big thank you to everyone on board with the contest!!! So far I have a ton of entries through here, my shop, and myspace...so it will be a good contest.

For rules of the contest please see the blog post titled..."Monday"

ok so yesterday was hectic and I worked non stop, I even worked during Heroes!! Finally at about 11:00 I fell into bed to relax with the May issue of Vogue.

you see, my handsome bubs went to the PO to mail some of my packages and came back with it, at first I thought he had gone to the store and bought me a foreign Vogue, but no...it was American Vogue...and it had Models on the cover, yes...models!!!!!!!

I can't even remember the last time American Vogue had models on the cover, can you? Anyway, I usually sort of dread the summer spring issues of fashion magazines as I am not a "summery" kind of girl, but this issue of Vogue, is the best I have seen in quite some time, I seriously think I could blog about it for a week, it's that good.

but, I don't have time for that...I have a few hours to actually do some art and then I have a couple graphic design things I must get done, phone calls to make and more goodies to package.

Oh, and a big congrats to both Ben and Tara for jumping out into an early favorite position because they both commented on the blog and bought something...you see I think they are trying to "fix the contest" but remember loyal blog readers, this is not like the Quiz Show scandals of the 1950's, I have integrity, I cannot be bought.

(well I can be bought but it would take designer handbags to do it, or shoes)

here is an idea I stole from Karen Beth's blog, that I just loved.

5 hearts and 5 hates

here are 5 things I heart

1- the moments before you fall asleep at night then everything is all dreamy and surreal

2- ice cream dates

3- pictures of old movie stars

4- the rare mornings my bubs and I have to sleep in (about 2 times a month if we are lucky) and before we are both fully awake we just kind of snuggle in together and can't really talk, we just sort of squeak to each other at fist.

5- rain

5 things I hate

1- hillybillies

2- the fact that people light off fire works in the park next door all spring, summer, and fall

3- the fact that sometimes I tell people I am originally from New England and they say things like, "I thought you looked foreign"....there are so many things wrong with that statement I can;t begin to start, I just hate it all.

4- driving and being in a car for too long

5 - being poor.

ok, that's it for now loves. I am showing a new set of blocks I did, be back tomorrow for letters to celebrities.

****small side note, as of Thursday I will be taking all the art cards out of my shop as well as select paintings on canvas panel....they may not return as they will be going to Pittsburgh with me. If there are any you want, grab them now, or if you ask, I can hold things too...I'm nice like that.

Obsessions and the like

Welcome to Friday~~~

it has been rainy in scenic Columbus for what feels like forever, which has put me in the mood to curl up eat some cakes, and nap, nap, nap.

but alas, I have packaging to be done, blogs to be written, and houses to be child-proofed in preparation for the mean cheese arrival this weekend.

First order of business today...HAPPY BIRTHDAY AIMEE!!!!! (I am pretty sure it's today). You should all heads on over tp her blog and wish her well!

Yesterday I mentioned that the one and only Jody sent me a documentary about Gia. I watched it yesterday, and I cannot thank her enough!! It was wonderful, filled with photos I had never seen before, as well as a wonderful interview with legendary make up artist as well as Gia's former lover, Sandy Linter. Sandy is still white hot, and oozes with Debbie Harry cool!

awesome.

Also a prolonged interview with Francesco Scavullo was also totally amazing. When I was little I would stare at the covers of Cosmopolitan and just wish I could look like those girls, what I did not realize then, was that Scavullo was shaping the way I viewed "pretty".

Anyway, the documentary was amazing, and now I am even more convinced that if I was a dead, heroin addicted, lesbian super model from the 1970's...I would so be Gia.

I included today one of the wonderful images from her photo shoot with Helmut Newton, as well as an aceo I have of her in my shop, which features a very early pre NYC modeling days of Gia.

I also need to talk about how excited I am about a couple of things, first my darling friend Karen Beth has decided to do a zine, it is still in the very early planning stages, but she has asked me to do a cover for it, I will be collaborating with the adorable Lou from "art and ghosts" on the project.

I have been mentoring Lou over on etsy, and she is not only wonderful as a person, but just eerily talented, if you have not seen her work, you need to. I am in love with her photos, but she also does some wonderful work with doll imagery which is just fascinating.

While talking with her we realized we had a mutual love for the movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" which I have not seen in years, but it is one of my favorite genres of movies "anything about a boarding school".

SO anyway, the darling said she would send me a copy of the movie....YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's all I can think about!!

Oh and if you have the chance, your should check out the wonderful Tina's cute blog over on myspace, she decided to feature me as her shop of the week, which was a wonderful surprise when she asked.

I have a special sale going on her blog so you can go check it out to get the code if you are interested...

I got to see my friend Diana last night briefly, we met so we could look through my book, my book being my small portfolio of little collages, while she was picking out the pieces she would be taking, she told me how her son's Godfather had just returned home from Paris, where he picked up a new magazine foe me.

I was just thrilled, I don;t know which one it is, but it does not matter at all!!!!! As you all well know, I have a bit of a magazine, problem.

So I am coming up on a bunch of milestones that will be happening in the coming weeks, I am almost at 150 blog posts, 800 items sold on etsy, and my one year mark on etsy too...it's a lot going on all at once, you can expect me to get all generous and crazy with goodies with purchases, like Willie Wonka or some such nonsense, but instead of the oompa loompas, we just have the mean cheese.

that's all for now loves, until next time.

xoxo

Dear (Insert Name Here) Week III

**You all know what to do, time to write the letters to whoever you want.

xoxo

Dear Giselle

First my apologies if you do not read English very well, please have your assistant read this to you. I am assuming you do read English, as you must have been able to read and memorize your 2 lines in The Devil Wears Prada...

How are you? I just want to start out by telling you that you are by far my most favorite of the super models, not since Linda Evangelista reigned supreme have I loved a model as much as you. In fact if I had to guess I would say you are the most beautiful person I have ever seen...wait scratch that, my bubs is the most beautiful person I have ever seen, then Angelina Jolie, then Joaquin Phoenix, then you.

Wait...where am I going with this.

Oh, now I remember...way to go getting Tom Brady the Quarterback of the New England Patriots to knock you up, did you "forget" to take the pill that day?

I have to say that I was at first thrilled that you were dating him, as a born and raised New England girl, it really touched me that you were with one of the sports gods from my home, the only thing that would have been better was if you were dating any of the Red Sox, though they are are kind of fat and dumpy looking so I can see why that wouldn't happen.

So....though I was totally cool with you dating him, I have to say I am a bit mortified that you allowed him to get you pregnant, not only is this bad for your career, but the man also knocked up his ex-girlfriend too, just one month before you. I'm not huge on the whole "math" thing but I would be worried about the "overlap", but that's just me.

Now, forgive me if I am wrong but I really don't think he is the "marrying kind".

Now....I have this sinking feeling that things will go bad, that you will be left as a single mom, sure you will be incredibly rich and all, but single nonetheless.

Please don't go begging Leo to take you back, that will be humiliating, I suggest that you get in touch with the Jolie-Pitt's and see if they want to adopt/buy your baby, I'm sure they would. It would be ridiculously attractive plus it would be of international descent...which I think are their two main criteria for baby shopping.

Please consider this option, I only want what's best for you, and for the New England Patriots.

your ever faithful
Jennifer

ps- is there any truth to the rumor that you will be taking over Victoria's Secret?

Where did all the models go?

morning love bugs!

I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who humored me and wrote letters to your celebrities...it was awesome! The strange thing is, that you ALL picked someone I almost wrote to as well, oh and if you all get the chance you have to read Aaron's letter, he posted in on my myspace blog.

it almost made me pee my pants, it was that funny!!!

Stay tuned next week, as this is going to be my little ritual, seeing as I am totally obsessed with most celebs it was really only a matter of time.

Yesterday as you know I had to go to the shop, it made for a very hectic day but It was good because I totally got to geek out and go on and on about Heroes and whats been going on in my comics ( I know I am a lame-o...but you have to understand...THE MULTIVERSE STILL EXISTS IN THE DC UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!)

yes, totally shouting, and I am pretty sure only 1 or maybe two people reading this will get that, but it's ok.

I went to the post office yesterday, and I had such a good mail day!!! First I got this totally cute t-shirt in the mail that I ordered from Etsy Heart Throb Matt, then I got the 2 amazing slumber party illustrations from miss Fanciful Twist, Vanessa...I am in love with them, what a fun world she created for us. I also got not one, but two new magazines....

though this is where it gets a little melancholy....on the covers of these magazines was Kaite Holmes, and Jennifer Hudson.

not that I have anything against either of them (well, I hate Katie) but really, I don;t want to see them on the covers of fashion magazines, where the hell are the models? I can't remember the last time a model was on the cover of Vogue, I really can't.

Say what you want about fashion models, trust me I love and hate them, but I really think they are important to the very art of fashion (and yes, I do think it's an art) as having an almost anonymous looking model really allows the viewer to really see the clothes, and not the personality in the clothes, like for example, on Vogue, Jennifer Hudson is wearing a beautiful dress, but I barely took notice of it until just right now, I was too busy being dissatisfied with the cover choice.

oh well, who am I to say right? I mean I have only been obsessed with Vogue since I was 6...

Oh, I am so excited, I finally have gotten more of my acrylic cases for my art cards, I have been without them for almost 2 full weeks, so that means later on today I will be updating my little shop with a ton of new art cards, with many more on the way!!!!!

The piece I am showing today is this beautiful little 6x8 collage and I could not be more thrilled with how it turned out, I have to say I think it might be one of my most favorite things I have even done.

It is called "She Stopped For a Moment And Then..."

ok, enough rambling for now, I will chat with you all later.
