Le Sigh

Bonjour!!!

How are all of you this fine Monday morning????

well this weekend was filled with the little meanie and cheesie, it was also filled with many hours of snow and sleet....leaving us house bound.

so, what to do with a mean cheese during a snowstorm???

1- read books, well she flips through bad fashion magazines, and by bad I mean if they come in the mail with Jennifer Anniston on the cover they immediately get tossed her way. Anyway, she flips though magazines and I read books, currently I am reading a collection of the old times daily comic strip "On Stage" by Leonard Starr, as well as a biography of Amelia Earhart.

2- you gotta dance...I did a lot of dancing this weekend, the cheese loves it, she hoots and hollers and claps and signs more, more, more....she is especially a fan of the jive, though right now my calves are killing me, my legs hate the jive. So I danced and she cheered, my bubs laughed.

3- watch every holiday themed movie you have in the house, so we watched, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, A Muppet Christmas Carol, Frosty The Snowman, Frosty Returns, and Batman II.....yes that is a Christmas movie, re-watch it if you don't believe me.

4- Stop the mean cheese from tearing down the Christmas trees

5- Stop the mean cheese from touching the stove

6- stop the mean cheese from tearing apart the bookcase

7- Stop the mean cheese from hoping down the stairs

8- stop the mean cheese from sliding down the stairs

9- there was also a brief bit of outside play, when my bubs (tried) to pull her around on the sled, which turned into her diving out of the sled and falling down, running, falling down, running, falling down and then her taking off her mittens.

10- Stop the mean cheese from taking off her mittens

so there you have it.

When all was said and done and she was back at her mom's house, my bubs and I got to have a splendid movie date and went to go see The Golden Compass....now I know people say it's confusing....but it's not, at all, in fact I am pretty sure a very small child could understand it. There is also hooplah about it being anti Christian or something or other...um, it's not, not at all....It's a fantasy movie afterall, and I am sorry that in this fantasy world there is no "Jesus".

in all seriousness, I LOVED it, though I admit to being a sucker for any large scale sweeping fantasy epic. I do know all the words to the Lord of The Rings movies....I love it all....well except Harry Potter anything, my ex husband, that no good hippie would spend hours and hours smoking pot and watching the first two HP movies, I think he had a thing for Hermione...or Harry...or both, it was hard to tell....so needless to say Harry Potter is just sort of boring to me.

But, Golden Compass...brilliant, so go see it, many times so they have enough money to make the sequel to it.

ok, that's enough blah blah today.

oh and before I go I am having a little sale in my etsy shop, Buy 2 Reproduction prints and get a third one for free...just write which print you want in the message section!!

The Perfect Day Off Goes Somehting Like This

Happy Thursday

So, my bubs had yesterday off from work so we decided to have a "real" day off...we decided to walk into Westerville and roam around the book stores and the antique shops. It was bliss, knowing we did not have to be anywhere or do anything, just walk and roam...

It started with a visit to the "nice" post office where everyone is friendly and they help you, also when there is a long line people don't start stealing stuff off the walls, like at the post office I usually go to.

Then we headed to a wonderful little used book place called "The Book Manor", now you need time to go through the book manor as it really does not appear to be in any kind of order, sure there are "sections" but those seem vague and there are books piled everywhere. I scored a good vintage Nancy Drew (I opted for The Haunted Bridge, rather than the Haunted Showboat)...then we wandered to an antique shop and then decided to have lunch.

We decided on The Old Bag Of Nails pub, because we have gone there for drinks a lot and the atmosphere is great....though much to my chagrin the menu reads like a vegetarians worst nightmare....there was nothing for me to eat.

Needless to say I ended up eating a plate of mozzarella sticks, I could have gone for a salad but you know me and the cheese.

now.....after the meal we wandered a bit more and actually made our way over to an establishment that I have been meaning to check out....now I don;t want to say the name, as I'm positive the owner "googles himself" an awful lot...and that's not all he does to himself I'm sure.

So anyway, I will just say that this is a theme bookstore...right when we walk in I am at once overwhelmed with the smell of cat. You know that mix of pee and funk that happens when there is a cat in a small space.

Yet...............the space was huge it being inside an old Victorian house. But why? Why would a bookstore smell like cat, so of course I don't edit my brain monologue and say out loud, "it smells like cat", and when I turn the corner I see....that there is a GIANT cat laying on the front counter almost hiding the GIANT man who was click clacking on the inter web right behind it.

ugh, it was not a pleasant site...now I really don;t have anything against cats at all, other than being deathly allergic to them, but why??? Why would you have a cat in a store....and why would a big building smell like cat pee so much.

I wander a bit as does my bubs, the place seems cool, but the kitty stink is overwhelming. The carpet is covered in cat hair, there are tumbleweed size cat clumps everywhere....and that's when we see it, a separate wing of the shop devoted to cats...a cat gift shop...and that room...the carpet looked white with cat clumps.

ugh, by then my throat is closing and I am fearing that we will need to rush me to the hospital, so I bolt from the cat haven, bubs on my tail (note the pun), then we are back into daylight and the normal world.

I turn to my bubs and say, I bet he lets his cat just pee all over him, and my bubs agrees and mumbles something about the man loving it...

it's all bad, it's awful.

From there we went in to a couple more places and then headed home to drop off goodies and then head out again to get ice cream so we could have a sitting on the front porch date together. I usually refer to them as "swing dates" but I was afraid if I wrote that you would all get the wrong idea.

So there you have it, a single day.

the photos today are of two collages I have done, based on the Romeo and Juliet ballet, they are listed separately in my shop but they look wonderful together.

OK, enough cat blabber for today....catch you all tomorrow.

xoxo

PS- yesterday I ate cookies for breakfast, then had cheese sticks for lunch, then had some root beer and then more ice cream with a cookie (as a garnish) last night....yeah, as you see there was no "dinner" on that list, nor anything healthy so I must drag my butt over to the exercise bike for a bit.

come back weekend...come back

happy Tuesday morning!!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend, whether it be long or short...I had a spectacularly relaxing one, you see bubs and I went nowhere and did nothing...no BBQ's no fire works...nothing, and it was still a bit blissful.

He got out of work Saturday and that began the weekend that was filled with eating junk foods (for dinner one night we had cheesecake and peanut butter ice cream) and lots of relaxing, napping, reading and then yes...even more sweets.

We did take a little jaunt to the small movie theater a few blocks from us to go see Pirates, which was by far the best of the three movies even though it had stuff I am not a fan of.

1- gross eyeball things
2- crabs (yes Aaron, you have now made ME scared of crabs too, you are right it's the pinchers and crabwalking)
3- Kiera Knightly

Then yesterday my bubs went back to work and I spent the day packaging things up and watching way too many hours of old school Degrassi High, I don;t know what it is but I am just a sucker for Canadian TV from when I was a teenager, don't even get me started on how much I love anything Anne Of Green Gable related!!!

I also managed to get some really good creative time in this weekend too, amidst the naps and the sweets.

So did anyone else watch the Miss Universe Pageant last night??? Well I did, and can I just say, the girls were especially slutty looking this year, and I swear Miss Korea looked like an adult film star, and...her name was "Honey Lee"...that is so not her real name.

I also like that Dava Navarro was one of the judges, and when he got to ask "the final question" to Miss Brazil (who was beautiful in a Las Vegas Showgirl kind of way), he basically was just hitting on her and called her "baby"

I also like that Miss USA fell on her but during the Evening Gown competition, and then got booed by the audience when she made it into the top 5....

sorry to geek out, but I do love the damn beauty pageants a lot...a real lot.

ok, must get back to work....

I have also realized that I am "this close" (ok 9 away) from hitting the 1000 items sold in my shop...which seems so strange and wonderful at the same time, I really feel like I should be doing something very special for the next 9 things sold, like free stuff or a special sale or something....

so...I guess I will do a sale, yes, that's it...I will give the sales until I hit 1000 a special 20% off. Just write "1000" in the message to seller and wait for a new invoice.

ok, that's enough business talk.....off to start my day.

xoxo

Happy Thusrday

ooh, good morning, as I type this I am snacking on pop tarts and drinking a now cold cup of coffee, but alas...too lazy to go and warm it up.

thanks everyone for reading my letter yesterday...and honestly, if someone finds Paris Hilton address for me and puts in in my comments, I will send that letter to her.

ok in other news...On Tuesday my bubs and I went to the Columbus Museum of Art, on a day date...it was nice, though the featured exhibit was really not my thing (Op Art of the 1960's) it was still a nice excursion.

My darling bubs had never been to an art museum before, he kept asking if there would be a "flume ride" as he loves those, and I just kept saying "yes baby I think it's in the next room"

I was going to take a ton of pictures, but with no flash and how dark they keep the rooms...they would all have just tuned out yucky...so I lieu of that, I decided instead to just take photos in the sculpture garden....

The first photo (at the top of the post) is of course a little SP of me and the bubs, a little kissy face ...we never have anyone to take photos of us, so all of our pictures are me taking them

Oh No....This Giant Bunny Is Coming For Us...Run...RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I assure you that though it looks like my bubs is going to fight the Pope, he tells me that was not what was happening, they were in fact playing "Rock, Paper, Scissors"...I think it was my bad photo angle that makes it look all the more menacing. I was inspired by the Op art Exhibit to change up the angle.
this one should be called...."Jenn Rips Off Monet", as some of you may know I have a "thing" for fountains, I love them, and it really takes ALL my willpower to not get in them. In fact there was a time when I had to be "removed" from the Fountain at Rockefeller Center. I am like a small child when I see them, all of a sudden I almost black out, and then....I'm in the fountain. The look of the water in this fountain is what kept me away.

also if you ever go into the fountain at Rockefeller Center, be warned...it is deeper than you think it is.

This photo is what I bought in the gift shop....this was of course after walking around with a fashion book for $70, a costume history book for $200, and another fashion book for $50...then I looked in my wallet and (huge melodramatic sigh) decided instead to get this little darling of a ring, for a mere $4 plus tax...sure it was in the kids section, but come on, it is too cool.

I feel like J.Lo or that poor wife of Kobe Bryant walking around with this ridiculous bling on my hand.

so, as a lot of you know, there has been a lot of blog tagging going around as of late, kind of like a case of mono in group of slutty friends...I love it, but alas I know it puts a lot of pressure on people, so I will not tag back.

this is a little tag called "4 things" which Karen Beth posted in her blog, very unofficially tagging people, but then later officially tagged me when I said it was cool.

Back to work

morning!!

wow, yesterday was a much needed little break for me, I did only the slightest amount of work...as many of you know I am a bit obsessive with my work load and find that I am working all of the time.

That is part of the downsides from working at home, I never take a "day off".

So yesterday my bubs and I went to a movie, we...The Reaping, which was....well it was exactly what were were expecting it to be. I love scary movies that mix bible anything into it...so when I kept seeing the previews for this and repeatedly the words "bible plagues" were said...well, I knew it was the movie for me.

Plus it took place in the swamps of Louisiana which is where "my people" hail from.

All in all it was good, fun and scary...not scary like The Exorcist but still very good popcorn turn off your brain movie , at one point I was watching the movie all balled up on my seat, barely peeking out over my knees. This is hard to do in 4 inch heels but I needed to.

I also had my hands up almost shielding my eyes...waiting, just waiting.

We were also the only two people in the theater so we got to just be sort of loud and funny during it.

all in all in was good, though...disclaimers being what they are, I was raised very catholic (I'm not anymore...but that's not the point), when I was little my mom gave me this "children's bible" that was filled with gory painted illustrations of the 10 plagues and all that, I was mortified and fascinated by this when I was small, so seeing this movie was like peeking back into the things that scared me when I was small.

Looking back, I don't know why my mom gave me such a frightening children's bible...but I guess she had her reasons.

After that we had a little lunch and just relaxed.

I think we needed it, you see my bubs and I are always doing stuff, even when we are home together, we very rarely take the time to just be, I am not sure why this is, but relaxation is always just out of reach.

I would like to try and work on that.

I know I get obsessive with my work because it is such an extension of me, of who I am...when I am having a good day work wise, I feel calm, secure inside.

Worthwhile.

But on days when I am suffering from creative block, or sales are down, well it's strange, I take it personally. I am filled with doubt and all at once I am insecure. This makes it very hard to be around me sometimes, those times that I am filled with "need" for reassurance.

That is what I want to work on, I want to just be me, with out the doubt. Is this even possible? I know everyone feels like this sometimes but is it possible to just be so at ease and comfortable with yourself?

Or is being an artist type something that predisposes you to this inner turmoil.

wow....I have no idea how this blog went from Bible plagues to insecurity.

maybe that is one of the plagues???

ok I should dash, I have photos to take of some new pieces as well as a couple things to finish up. I will be listing a set of Audrey Hepburn blocks later today!!!

I listed this set of blocks last night, it is a set of 5 blocks and it is up for sale in my shop.

until next time, have a very merry Friday The 13th.

Lazy Day

just writing a quick hello....there will be no blog entry today as my bubs has the day off and I am going to take some down time.

will be back tomorrow refreshed and ready to go. We are going on a date this afternoon to a movie show and lunch.

in the mean time here is a new piece in my shop, it is a double sided ornament of sorts, non holiday of course, perfect for any time of year.

also, thank you to Ben for being my 850th item sold on etsy last night...what a wonderful treat, I will have to include a special gift for Ben as a thank you!

oh and a HUGE thank you for all the letters yesterday, I think this was our best week yet!! I am also struck by the death of Kurt Vonnegut Jr right now, I'm thinking next week perhaps we should use the theme of writing to an author, either dead or alive.

until tomorrow loves.
