when Thursdays feel like Mondays

hello darling ones

well yesterday was over in a flash and I did nothing that I "thought" I was going to do...just a lot of home time, then reading a lot of comics and prepping of some new art cards and a new canvas piece.

I am really loving making art cards again.....there was a time that I was just burnt out on them, but as of right now, I love them...I think it is helping that I am making them in a series....and though I do not list them as such, just knowing the story in my head of these pieces is really helping...

so much babble right off the bat...

sorry I am still half asleep.

So yesterday during letters to celebs day...one of my most favorite co-horts left a comment with a great idea....next week will be "Letters FROM celebs"...yes that's right...it's time to roll play, so get your thinking caps on now.

So yesterday as I said was a "day off", though we did not do much, I did get to go meet my wonderful friend Steve for a bit, and see some other friends at the same time...then bubs and I decided to go and have a Starbucks date...in reality my bubs does not really care for Starbucks though I was whining all day that I NEEDED a "tall, skinny, iced, white chocolate mocha"...so he finally relented.

So before we hit Satrbucks we went to Barnes and Noble...so I could look at the magazines (I know, like I need any more magazines. But when I was there, I found....my new favorite magazine (besides Vogue Nippon), it's called Androgyny Magazine and it's fashion for men and women...and it's spectacular, it's even in English, but don't be fooled it's not an American Magazine as most of ours suck....it is from England and I love it...all the boys and girls look like ghosts and there is even a "dead girl/crime scene" inspired photo spread...I know, it's dark and in bad taste but....it doesn't matter, it was just refreshing to see photos that would never and could never make they way onto American Vogue or dare I say...Elle.

I swear I looked through the magazine non stop for an hour....now it is time to devour it and read...but alas, no time for that today, as I really must do some creating and then...package parcels (note the alliteration), I really wish I had a packaging elf to help me...that way I could spend the day reading celeb gossip on the internet and making stuff...and even, drawing which I am still doing, or at least trying to do...thank you to all of you who put up with frantic/negative/crazy emails from me about how I "can't" draw....all of your support means so very much.

also before I go today...one of my dearest far away friends has a birthday today, please head over to her myspace or her etsy shop (she's having a sale) and wish her a very happy birthday.

ok must consume caffeine....pronto

xoxoxo

ps- Nick because you were wondering...yes, I was a HUGE fan of "It's Your Move" but totally forgot that Justine Bateman was on an episode...I might have to borrow the dvds

Because I Am Spolied Rotten

What a wonderful bunch of celeb letters yesterday, I particularly felt a connection to Moogan's letter to Kathy Griffen...as I have been thinking all of the same things about her poor plastic ridden face.

ok moving on from there...

How are you all? I personally am a little worse for wear today after deciding last night (late) to head over to the Treehouse to watch their open mic, my bubs was up in the air about whether he wanted to play and basically decided that if he could get on sometime around midnight it would be a go...alas by the time we showed the first slot was 12:45...so we just settled in with our friend Ken and decided to stay and watch him perform his punk rock new wave set...which we had never seen, and was by far the highlight of the night.

You see, last night was one of those nights that everyone who performed with a few minor exceptions...all seemed miserable, playing that "I'm too cool to care about the audience" card...all on stage, eyes closed and lost in some sort of haze of pretension...it was sort of sad...until our friend Ken got up and played and though his music was crazy and unlike anything anyone was hearing there...he was enjoying himself, he was actually...dare I say...smiling.

Oh the the horrors....maybe he did not get the memo that you are supposed to be ultra sad in order to be taken seriously...

When did it become wrong to have a good time, to enjoy what you do? Why and when did jaded hipsters become the status quo?

ok, speaking of being happy.....last week a certain bubs (that would be my bubs) decided to get me a present for hitting the 1000 sale mark...he gave me a choice, either Season One of Beverly Hills 90210, OR Season one of Project Runway....

what???

hiw can he make me chose between those two, it was like damn Sophie's Choice, it was that difficult, so in a moment of pure emotion I sort of screamed out "Project Runway"

really looking back it's a no brainer...as a 90210 junkie and a total "Kelly Taylorphile" (new term I just made up) we all know that the good Kelly stuff does not start to happen until season 2.5, the summer she and Dylan hook with Brenda in Paris.

I know, I know I am so lame....

so back to my point, I chose Project Runway, and when he got home from the store, there was a bonus surprise....yes, another gift for me, it was a video game called "Designer's World" and sure it's made for 8 year old girls....but it looks so cool.

The point of the game is to design a fashion collection, hire your models, and have a fashion show in NYC, Milan, and Tokyo...you also have to make sure your line is doing well in stores etc.

Um, hello....that is awesome!!!!!!!!!! I have not opened it and hooked it up yet, as I know it will consume my whole world once I do.

The other day I also experienced the very rare "Mail Orgasm" you see I placed an order with my very favorite magazine crack dealer, Jody for some Japanese Vogues and Japanese Elle....but with my order she threw in a bunch of other mags too...

and I thought I was in heaven...but that very same day I also got a large box in the mail as well, my bubs giving me the look that said "what did you buy"...but alas...I was shocked too. You see I got a wonderful surprise from a dear blog reader and internet bff Tara.

This care package was filled with....Foreign Fashion magazines (drool), Griffen and Sabine Postcards (AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!), A kick ass 90's mix cd with like all my favorite Euro Brit Pop bands, some cards, some candy, and most importantly of all, a very nice long letter...I stayed up late that night very slowly going through all of the goodies from Jody and then from Tara....listening to the Smiths and the Judybats and everything felt so right.

so....with all of this cool inspiration being thrown at me....I have been working like crazy in between going out and the like...so the photos today show just a small portion of the goodies, as well as a mixed media box that I finished yesterday that is now posted in my shop.

Oh, I have babbled enough for today...catch you all tomorrow.

Rambling and Wishing You Were All Near

Morning lovelies.

how was your weekend?

mine was sort of blah again, as some of you know we had lil' cheesy, and was sick again, in fact she had just been released from the hospital on Friday shortly before we went to pick her up. Again, I am mortified that Keith's ex did not bother to tell him.........

I could scream, in fact I did scream, you see his ex likes to keep all the misery and heartache to herself, it gives her more attention that way...

ok, sorry, this is not a place for talk of "her"...this is a place of beauty.

Needless to say the mean cheese was still not doing well, and that made for a very stressful and tiring weekend, so by the time we dropped her off I think my bubs and I both needed to get out of the house for a bit.

We went to Barnes and Noble so I could look though the magazines...Oh, it was a treasure trove of new imports, I almost died...I had a pile of magazines all around me, over $100, but then I realized...wait, what are you doing, you have no money...

so I had to tone it down, One of the Magazines I had a was a little import called "Flair " the problem was that is was wrapped in plastic and I could not see what was inside, I would have risked the Barnes and Noble gestapo and ripped the beauty from the plastic, but that's where the price was...and it was only $6.25....much better than the $18.50 for the new issue of Muse.

So I went for it and went home with Flair, all in all it was worth $6.25...though now I am aching about going back to get some more.

When out I also picked up Columbus Alive, one of the city's artsy newspapers...while reading I stumbled upon an article about Columbus Fashion Week.....

what????

Columbus Fashion Week, that's right...we have a fashion week now, this is the first one. It is all week and there are fashion shows every night.....

but here's the problem, they start at 10:00pm each night and they are $20 to get in (per person, per night). That is way too late for my poor bubs as he has to get up early, early to get to the restaurant, and I don't drive....so there's no way to get there, I especially wanted to go to Friday Night's show...

sigh....

It is time's like this that I really wish I had some friends that lived close by (that were interested in this), I have a couple friends out here, but no one that would go to a fashion week anything with me....though I am sure all of you would just jump at the chance...well, maybe not all of you, but most of you would.

right?

Oh, speaking of fashiony things, I bought the most ridiculously adorable skirt on etsy from rebecca, I can't wait to get this and wear it with a little pair of black tights!!! her skirts are adorable and they are priced so wonderfully....I could not stop myself from buying one...

It was beyond my control completely.

ok, well I really should be getting to work, I have a zillion things I feel I need to do, and a zillion more that I actually have to do, I have photos to take for crap to put on ebay (comics and such), I have to call my landlord to come and fix our dishwasher, I have packages to package, and I really need to somehow get past the creative rut I am in...somehow.

I am going to try something new perhaps...at least that is the plan. I am going to try and do a series of collage blocks that will make a mix and match piece of artwork that you can put on a desk or shelf, I am also thinking of making more match boxes, it has been ages since I have made any of those.

I do have one cool piece that I have not listed in my etsy shop yet, I love it it's called BecomingMata Hari...and I will probably list it sometime late this morning, I have been holding off listing it all weekend because I really wanted to blog about it.

ok, must dash.....I need to get of this done during the day as tonight I am having dinner with fellow mixed media artist Jennifer Kerr...we're going for cheap Mexican food...

yummers.

until tomorrow.

xoxo

Where did all the models go?

morning love bugs!

I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who humored me and wrote letters to your celebrities...it was awesome! The strange thing is, that you ALL picked someone I almost wrote to as well, oh and if you all get the chance you have to read Aaron's letter, he posted in on my myspace blog.

it almost made me pee my pants, it was that funny!!!

Stay tuned next week, as this is going to be my little ritual, seeing as I am totally obsessed with most celebs it was really only a matter of time.

Yesterday as you know I had to go to the shop, it made for a very hectic day but It was good because I totally got to geek out and go on and on about Heroes and whats been going on in my comics ( I know I am a lame-o...but you have to understand...THE MULTIVERSE STILL EXISTS IN THE DC UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!)

yes, totally shouting, and I am pretty sure only 1 or maybe two people reading this will get that, but it's ok.

I went to the post office yesterday, and I had such a good mail day!!! First I got this totally cute t-shirt in the mail that I ordered from Etsy Heart Throb Matt, then I got the 2 amazing slumber party illustrations from miss Fanciful Twist, Vanessa...I am in love with them, what a fun world she created for us. I also got not one, but two new magazines....

though this is where it gets a little melancholy....on the covers of these magazines was Kaite Holmes, and Jennifer Hudson.

not that I have anything against either of them (well, I hate Katie) but really, I don;t want to see them on the covers of fashion magazines, where the hell are the models? I can't remember the last time a model was on the cover of Vogue, I really can't.

Say what you want about fashion models, trust me I love and hate them, but I really think they are important to the very art of fashion (and yes, I do think it's an art) as having an almost anonymous looking model really allows the viewer to really see the clothes, and not the personality in the clothes, like for example, on Vogue, Jennifer Hudson is wearing a beautiful dress, but I barely took notice of it until just right now, I was too busy being dissatisfied with the cover choice.

oh well, who am I to say right? I mean I have only been obsessed with Vogue since I was 6...

Oh, I am so excited, I finally have gotten more of my acrylic cases for my art cards, I have been without them for almost 2 full weeks, so that means later on today I will be updating my little shop with a ton of new art cards, with many more on the way!!!!!

The piece I am showing today is this beautiful little 6x8 collage and I could not be more thrilled with how it turned out, I have to say I think it might be one of my most favorite things I have even done.

It is called "She Stopped For a Moment And Then..."

ok, enough rambling for now, I will chat with you all later.

The French make Lindsay Lohan seem less trashy

Morning my dearest most darling ones!!!

So as I sit an d type this I once again am enjoying the solitude before.....MEAN CHEESE WEEKEND!!!!!

yup, she is on her way (well, not really we pick her up tonight, but it seems strangely ominous if I say she's on her way...never mind).

Where the hell did this week go? First it is Monday, and then next thing I know it's Friday, and the entire week has been a blur of paint covered hands and packaging parcels and secretly watching General Hospital.

I need to say how adorable you all are, there were several of you who after reading my last post about the non paying buyers who sent me the most adorable little messages asking if I was referring to them.... of course not!!!!!!

No my non paying buyers I believe are not even real people, just imaginary names and address which have been a plague to many lately.

So yesterday I very briefly got to see my friend Diana, she is an amazingly supportive woman, she is the one that got Keith the "in" at the magazine for a possible monthly comic strip (I am so excited for him I could almost burst), also if I ever have the money I am going to hire her as my agent!!!

She hosted an amazing party for my art back in the fall, and next week we are getting together because she wants to work on framing some pieces for a boutique she has talked to about me...yay.

and.....she brought me the most glorious pile of magazine's last night when she came by to pick up a painting and so Keith could give her little boy guitar lessons....

The best part of the magazine pile was a breathtaking magazine called L'Officiel, which a friend of hers picked up for me a couple weeks ago when he was in Switzerland, he is now roaming the world buying me fashion magazines at every location.

OMG!!!! How cool is that? I took a photo of the cover, please note how pretty Lindsay Lohan looks, not at all like the trashy street whore she looks like right now, also the awesome fashion photo shoots inside are breathtaking, this is why I love everything French (like me..oui).

I think it might be my new favorite magazine of the moment...besides Vogue of course, but hello...that's like my bible, so that's a given.

my shop has been bustling the past several weeks, and because of that I am proud to say (drum roll please) that for the first time in the history of me living in Columbus, that I have paid my electric bill down to zero dollars!!!!

Now that may not be huge to most people, but to me....well it's a moment to celebrate...ok celebration over....time to giddy up and go get some work done and the house tidied up before meany cheesy gets here. I am going to be on the Etsy Showcase on Monday and Tuesday so I really need to get some things done today as well as Sunday Night...

I have 4 amazing little pieces to list today that I am just love, loving!!! One is pictured above and it is called "If All Ladies Leaving Left Like Her" it will be for sale in my etsy shop at about 9:30 am EST. I love it, I used a vintage fashion image taken by Horst. P. Horst that I absolutely adore.

Oh and you should all know that the collage that Gillian is using in her corset project sold yesterday!!
