when is the last time I did work?????

good morning!!

Thank you to all my New York readers who read through my pile of hate yesterday, it is all tucked safely away inside my head again, so no fears.

How are you all?

So yesterday was a day off for Keith and I...well day off being all relative as there was tons to do, but there was also a bunch of time that I spent on the couch reading comics...

so this is how the day went.

Got up, wrote hate mail to Derek Jeter as my bubs got ready to go meet the UPS man and get our comics before heading to the old comic shop to see if they need help (they didn't...YAY) so he came home, we went through our order, dividing up what is just his, just mine, ours, and our friend Steve's. Once the division was done I noticed that on top of my pile was Strangers in Paradise #90...the very last issue of that book...ever.

This is when I start crying a little. I go to the couch and read the book, tears in my eyes the whole time....none of it even sinks in, so I have to read it again, then fully calm down, then read it one more time.

It was beautiful and a part of me will die every time I think that it will never come out again.

sigh....

We then read a bunch of other comics in a big binge (I never said I was not a dork). Once done I gathered up a small group of collages and headed over to The Frame Station to drop off work.

Once outside I realize it's hot...yucky hot...ugh.

So we make the trip over and once we get there, well I want to make an ok impression on these people, so I turn to my bubs and ask what I always ask..."Am I shiny" and his usual reply "I don't know what that means" (it means for the record...is my nose shiny, so I need powder). I flip down the mirror and yes...I am shiny, in fact I am sweaty....no good.

I quickly powder and we head in...my hair is both fuzzy with humidity and flat with heat...no, no no!!!

So I get there and the owner Melinda is wonderfully nice, and I also get to meet in person Megan from Moogan's Creations. Now, I read Megan's blog so I know she is funny, and smart, and I have lurked in her etsy shop so I know she is talented...but I did not know how adorable she would be...and there I am, with fuzzy flat hair, and all sweaty.

(yes, these are the things I think about)

So, work is dropped off, and then my bubs and I are on to the next errand, picking up prescriptions at the Pharmacy...and the usual "No, I don't have insurance" and the pity look from the pharmacy.

I know, I know, I need insurance but you see, I'm a starving artist.

so we head home for a bit, a late lunch and then I head over to the comic shop to meet Steve so we can be geeks for an hour or so...I know our conversations are probably only interesting tot he two of us, but trust me they are VERY interesting to us.

then Keith comes to the shop and we hang for a bit...he is going back and forth about playing at the Treehouse, he wants to and he doesn't...you see last week was not fun, and it was so hot...we would just go to bed.

But, we decide to go, hell...I could use a drink and I know he could too. SO we get there very early so we can ease into the night and that way my bubs can play early in the night and then we can leave.

So several drinks into the night I have this profound realization while reading the personals in the "Other Paper", more specifically I am not reading the Men Seeking Women, or Women Seeking Men, or Men Seeking Men, Or Women Seeking Women.

no I am reading the best part of the newspaper...I am reading "Other Variations" such as this little gem

"BABY ME, cross dressing adult baby willing to try anything new, open minded and willing to please"

or this

"Old Fashioned Spankings mature discreet PWM will administer to women of any age for discipline, stress relief, or pleasure"

I could go on and on....so my thought was, if the art thing does not work out, that I could read these ads to the blind, maybe that is my calling (or maybe that was the whiskey drinks talking...it is hard to say).

So my bubs played first and he was wonderful, and as we were about to bolt out of there, we noticed that the next act was not just a sad man with a guitar, but a three piece band out of Montreal (love the Canadians!) with a stand up base and a laptop.

we were intrigued so we stayed are were treated to the sounds of "Ghetto Pony"

they were fantastic, seriously I cannot rave enough, we even bought their cd. They were just 3 skinny white Canadians playing the coolest geek rock I have heard in well, forever....picture Weezer but more funk to it.

So you have to go to their myspace and listen to them, for serious...they are that cool.

After that we meandered home...long day.

Today there are things that must be done...I must package stuff, I must make new things not only do I really want to but my shop looks sort of sad right now.

Oh, and for those of you interested in pocket mirrors, they were shipped out yesterday which means they should be here on Saturday....now we have the mean cheese but I might be able to list some on Saturday night, watch the blog for more details, I will lit a couple each day.

OMG this post is so long, I am dreadfully sorry but I am very wordy today...ok truthfully I know I should be working out but but if I am doing this that means I am not doing that.

no one likes to do Cardio when it is already very hot at Chateau Stiletto.

sigh...big giant sigh....

oh, and the picture today was a pendant I made a few days ago, it is for sale in my shop, and it is Virginia Woolf

Dear (Insert Name Here Week 9)

**first a disclaimer, usually I am filled with snark and sass with these letters but today I am going a different route, I am going to be sincere...

Dear Terry Moore (writer creator artist of my favorite comic of all time Strangers In Paradise)

First, Terry I have to start out with telling you just how much your series has meant to me, I really feel a profound connection to your characters, in fact at times I think they represent all my best, and all my very worst qualities.

I love them for that, so thank you.

I met you for the second time this past weekend in Pittsburgh, you were there celebrating the end to you long running series, with that in the back of my head, it made me reach Pittsburgh with a somewhat heavy heart.

It took all of my restraint to keep from grabbing you and crying about the book ending, from telling you that at so many times in the past few years the characters in your comic were the closest things I had to friends in this alien tundra that is the mid-west.

I wanted to say these things, and to tell you that I would miss them, almost as much as I miss my actual friends back in New Hampshire....but I didn't say them, I am sure you hear it all the time.

I am also sure that there is a big part of you that is more than happy to put SIP behind you, to move on, to grow, and for all of that I am happy for you, I am...I am just, well...I am very sad for me.

A bit later today I will be headed to the comic shop to pick up the second to last issue you will be producing, and just thinking about it is making my eyes fill with tears and and a stone rest in my stomach.

how did you do it? how did you create such a full world, so multi-layered, all of the characters being so lovable, and so very unlovable all at once?

How did you make them so human?

I could go on and on, but alas, I have the hard work of a starving artist ahead of me today.

So with that I bid you a very fond farewell, and a hope in my heart that the mainstream title you hinted about working on next will be Amazing Spiderman....or any of the Spidey books, just not X-Men...anything but X Men.

Love

Jennifer Gordon

Honies, I'm Home.

Hi!!!

Oh I have missed, missed, missed you!!!

ok, before I get into chatting about the show, I am going to talk about the contest, I was going to announce the winner today, but I lied, I will actually announce the winner tomorrow, and I am going to share a bunch of photos from the show as well.

You will also get to see a photo or 2 of my bubs...YES, HE IS REAL!!! No imaginary bubs for me.

ok, the show......................

first, I had a wonderful, wonderful time. Just to get away for a bit was much needed. To tell the truth, i partied like I was a damn Olsen Twin, it was great.

Now the bad side....The show was very slow, and though we did well without our comics, I only sold 4 art cards all weekend.

Ouch.

I have had a rough time at selling cards at shows before, but never this rough. So consider my self esteem very bruised, on the plus side for you all.....that means I have a ton of new cards that I will; be listing in the shop thins week.

YAY!!

ok, here are some wonderful parts of the weekend....

My bubs and I took a taxi into the city Friday night to go to the McCormick and Schmick's out there, one of my bubs' chefs was kind enough to comp our meal and drinks for the night. I was more than wonderful.

On Saturday we had fun at the show, I got to expand my ever growing comic art collection (photos coming this week) I also got to meet for the second time, one of my idols, Terry Moore, the writer/artist/creator of my favorite comic of all time "Strangers in Paradise".

that night we hung out in out room, had some drinks, went to an auction and then hit the penthouse for the after party and free drinks, you gotta love free drinks.

Sunday was dreadfully slow day, I was out looking around the convention, and when I came back my bubs told me that our friend Diana and her family had come to the show.

I love Diana she is a doll, so I was thrilled to hear it, Diana calls herself my biggest fan, she has shown incredible support for me over the past year, in every way.

So, when Keith told me she was there it just made everything just that much better, but then he said, "oh, and she left you a gift" and low and behold there was a gift bag behind the table, he handed it to me so I could open it, and inside the gift bag was...................................

a Dior purse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was practically screaming and going around and showing people. WOW!!!!! It was a good day to be Jenn, that is all I have to say about that!!!

The strangest thing was when someone came over to my table and told me my work looked just like an artist that they really liked on Etsy....lol.

Oh and before I forget, I will be listing a new comic in my etsy shop as well it will be there later today so be on the look out, I will give it a proper write up tomorrow, but you are all the first to know.

I was lucky enough to be part of an amazing anthology put out by Bad Place Productions, I have three pages of art included in the book, so besides cover work, this is the first time that my art has been published anywhere.

so be on the lookout for that.

picture I am showing today is a lovely piece I have in my shop right now, it is 8x8 on canvas panel.

until tomorrow, when I promise, lots of photos and the contest winner.
